The City of Columbus merged with Muscogee County in 1971, creating a streamlined system that provides a very high level of citizen services at a very low per capita cost. City Manager Isaiah Hugley

The city manager is responsible for planning, directing and supervising the activities of all City employees. He develops, implements and administers the policies of the City, manages and controls functions of City departments and performs duties and functions relative to a wide range of City programs and functions. The city manager ensures that City ordinances, resolutions and regulations are executed and enforced. He develops and administers the City Council meeting agenda, promotes continuous improvement in service delivery and identifies and responds to community needs. The city manager promotes public/private partnerships that contribute to sustained economic development and a high quality of life. He focuses on smart growth and a strong financial profile that contribute to sustaining Columbus as the second largest city in Georgia, because we do amazing things.

On Friday, September 13th , Keep Columbus Beautiful will be hosting its KCBC Mayor’s 2 nd Golf Tournament benefitting the Keep Columbus Beautiful Commission. Once again, the tournament will be held at the beautiful Bull Creek Golf Course.

The mission of Keep Columbus Beautiful to engage and educate individuals to take greater responsibility for enhancing beautification, protecting the environment, and eliminating litter and blight. Through its board of directors and sub-committees, Keep Columbus Beautiful works to enhance the mission and the vision of this organization.

Columbus Civic Center Welcomes Back Spookfest with a Double Feature on the Big Screen: Beetlejuice & The Exorcist

The Columbus Civic Center is thrilled to announce the return of its highly anticipated annual event, Spookfest, celebrating another year of thrilling Halloween festivities! This year’s Spookfest is set to be bigger and better, bringing the community together for a spooktacular night of fun, frights, and family-friendly entertainment on October 12th, 2024, from 7:30 PM – 11:00 PM.

Best of all, this event is free to the public! On October 12th, the Columbus Civic Center Amphitheater will transform into a haunted haven with eerie decorations, chilling surprises, and a special treat for movie lovers. We are excited to present a double feature on the big screen, showcasing two iconic films that have captivated audiences worldwide: Beetlejuice and The Exorcist.

Effective Monday, September 9, 2024, all household waste must be placed in city-issued black or brown carts for collection. Waste that is not in these carts will not be collected. Citizens wanting to purchase a second cart (brown cart) for residential household waste at a onetime fee of $55.00 can do so by calling 311. There is no additional charge to collect from the second cart/brown cart purchased from the city. Qualified low-income residents who have applied and been approved, based on Federal Government Poverty Guidelines, will be eligible for a brown city issued household waste cart at no additional cost.

All collection services (household garbage, recycling, and yard waste) will be provided on the same day as the normal household garbage day. Citizens will only need to put out carts once a week.

For bulk waste collection, including green waste or junk, citizens must request this service by calling 311. This service is not part of the regular curbside collection and needs to be scheduled separately.

Please ensure that there is a 3-foot clearance around each cart and avoid placing them near stationary objects such as cars, transformer boxes, power poles or etc. As a reminder, all limbs cut for the city to collect must be no longer than four (4) feet in length and no wider than six (6) inches in diameter. Any limbs exceeding these dimensions will not be collected.

City Officials will host a ‘Neighborhood Meeting’ on Tuesday, September 10th at 5:30pm at Carver Park, 6665 Hunter Road as part of the ‘All Hands on Deck Campaign’ to clean up our neighborhoods and our city. We must get a handle on the uncleanliness of our community, and it will take “all of our community leaders and residents to make this happen”. This is just the start of getting this done through collaboration and coordination.

Columbus Animal Care & Control announces they will not be taking in any animals for the next three days due to parvovirus exposure. At the direction of our veterinarian, CACC will be closed to the public for three days to track any possible exposures, eliminate additional exposures and to deep clean the facility.

The Columbus-Phenix City Transportation Study Metropolitan Planning Organization (C-PCTS MPO) is updating its Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) to reflect transportation infrastructure and policy needs through horizon year 2050. The MPO study area includes all of the City of Columbus/Muscogee County, Chattahoochee County, Fort Moore, and a portion of Harris County in Georgia plus the City of Phenix City, the City of Smiths Station, and parts of Lee and Russell Counties in Alabama.
